This event is part of a statewide effort to improve substance abuse prevention, treatment and recovery services for youth and young adults.  National and Regional leaders will present on key issues surrounding substance abuse for youth and young adults.  This event provides a forum to encourage discussion, share ideas, and consider policy change for substance abuse prevention, treatment, and recovery specific to youth ages 12-25.

Audience:
 
This event is designed for clinicians, educators, public administrators, public health, law enforcement, policy makers, primary care providers, other providers, and others interested in youth and young adult substance abuse issues.

TOPIC for Rural Facilities - September 26th - 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Description:

The TOPIC for Rural Facilities course is taught to all members of the trauma system team who participate in the ongoing assessment, evaluation, and improvement of trauma care. The course has been developed in response to the need for education and better understanding of the Performance Improvement process in trauma care. TOPIC focuses on the ongoing assessment of the continuum of trauma care with a structured review of process and discussions of strategies to monitor trauma patient outcomes.

There will be 3 four-hour courses offered. The same information will be discussed at each of the 3 sessions. 

Audience:  

This event is designed for Trauma Program Managers, Trauma Service Medical Directors, and EMS personnel, Rural Healthcare Workers.

Stop the Bleed - 9.27.17 AM Session

Morning Session: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

This course will train individuals using the Bleeding Control Course (B-Con) endorsed by the American College of Surgeons as part of the national Stop the Bleed campaign. In this train-the-trainer session, participants will learn the B-Con material and be trained to train other individuals using the course. The B-Con course is designed to teach the lay public how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and appropriate ways to stop bleeding. Participants will walk through the ABCs of Bleeding. Each participant will demonstrate knowledge of tourniquet application and wound packing through skill stations. Participants of the train the trainer course will also be provided resource materials associated with the B-Con course and the Stop the Bleed campaign.

Conference Objectives:
. Discuss identification of life threatening bleeding and bleeding control measures.
. Identify bleeding control measures using simulated materials including tourniquets and wound packing models.
. Review the necessary knowledge and resources to train qualified personnel to be trainers, as well as, educate the public on bleeding control measures.

Who Should Attend: There are basic requirements to attend a Stop the Bleed session:
. PHTLS instructors or providers
. TCCC/TECCC instructors or providers
. ATCN/TNCC instructors or providers
. Any EMR, EMT, paramedic, RN, PA, or MD
. Any ATLS instructors or providers
. Any NAEMT instructor for any other NAEMT continuing education course
