Description:More than ever, problem gambling specialists need to be aware of technology and the issues that face populations from youth to those in recovery for addictions. Are youth at risk for disordered gambling by merely playing a free poker app? Is a person in recovery at risk by playing frequent, often excessive, online social games? We will talk about the convergence of gaming and gambling and its risks, and provide participants with practical, evidence-based information and tools that are relevant to our everyday work.

I-SMART Full Clinical System Training-February 2015

The Governor's Conference on Substance Abuse is a statewide forum focused on prevention, treatment and recovery while offering recommendations for best practices. The goal of this conference is to establish a meaningful dialogue among substance abuse prevention, treatment, research, recovery and policy-making communities, by focusing on strategies and tools that can facilitate the development of a strategic response to the various challenges in the field. This event is a collaborative effort between the Iowa Department of Public Health, contracted agencies, and other service providers and stakeholders who are committed to the educational advancement of professionals working in the addictions field.

Conference Objectives:
.Provide attendees with practical, timely and relevant skills and knowledge that link science to  practice.
.Offer sessions that promote critical thinking and build partnerships toward improved practices in prevention, treatment and recovery.
